Who we are

Founded by Chloe and Patrick “Ryan” Cathro in 2023. Our Board of Directors include Chloe Cathro, Patrick Cathro, Dawn Fitzgerald, and Carol Naddell. We are hopeful to get another member or two. We created this registered 501 (C)(3) nonprofit with the idea of helping others that are in the early and overwhelming phase of caring for a child with a brain injury.  Having a child who has suffered a traumatic brain injury changes your life drastically. We want to help the entire family by giving grants and information to help navigate the complex and expensive world of having a disabled child. Cerebral Palsy (CP) affects 2-3 children per 1,000 live births. It is the most common physical and neuromotor disability in childhood. Before Cal however, we didn’t know two people who had Cerebral Palsy and we definitely didn’t know one person with CVI(the leading cause of childhood blindness). Now through our journeys across the country and world even, we have met hundreds of people with these exact diagnoses.

What we do

Fundraising events to raise money to give to families

Provide resources to Hospitals/NICUs for families new to the brain injury community (in process)

Social media (in process)

“My goal with Cal’s Cru, Inc. is to help as many families as possible. By any means necessary. We want to be resources not only to families but to doctors and hospitals. This has become my passion. I now go to bed thinking of what we can do to make it better for those that come after us. I hope we can make some change in this disability world we now navigate. We will never reach the status of Team Luke but what an inspiring foundation to want to be like.”

“My goal with Cal’s Cru, Inc. is to help future families navigate the NICU experience and life after. It’s a misconception that preemies are the only babies in the NICU. Oftentimes, the most sick are not preemies. I did not experience joy leaving the NICU with Cal. I experienced debilitating fear of what our life was going to look like and uncertainty regarding how long my child was going to live for. An incredibly isolating experience to have  and postpartum at that. Ryan and I have worked hard to share our experience with any doctor that will listen regarding the resources that we have gained from other parents, brain injury conferences,  and from our own research so that families feel more prepared and less alone.”
